Honestly, this journey has been far underway for the past 15 years. Yes, that’s how far back I can remember wanting to be a mother. I have loved young kids my whole life. I loved being around them, playing with them and seeing them grow. I enjoyed children so much that I majored in education and became an elementary teacher. Children make my heart skip a beat. The joy and excitement they bring to any situation is incredible.
And then I had my first born. No one, (and I mean not even friends who had children, my mother, or family) warned me of how different your biological child is compared to a child you are simply babysitting or teaching. They will give you a run for your money! I knew for sure I was ready and well equipped for being a mother but boy was I dead wrong! Life hit me like a semi-truck. My husband and I were scrambling those first couple of months…okay maybe years.
But now, 7 1/2 years later, with a 7 year old boy and a 5 year old girl, I think we are coming into our own and finding our footing on this parent thing. We have had ups and downs, laughs and tears (70% of which were mine), but we are holding strong to our principles, to our lessons learned, and most importantly to our God.
This journey is far from over. We don’t know what the future is going to hold, but we do know who holds the future. I love this family. There is nothing I would change. God knew what my husband and I needed and he gave it to us.
As we continue this journey with our two lovely munchkins, life is sure to teach us more lessons and we are sure to learn. Thanks for taking this journey with us.
